Traffic Congestion

The electorate suffers from quite bad congestion at key intersection suc as the Vanderlin Dve Lee Point road roundabout.  We also get "Rat running" through VRD and past all the schools.  This is predicted to get significantly worse

Middle Arm Precinct

I cannot use the term Sustainable in relation to this project.  The government went to some lengths to try and deny it is primarily a gas processing facility and manufacturing hub using gas as a feed-stock into the facility.  Both political parties say it will be good for our economy.  Independent economist point to a different story.  What do you think?

Conventional Gas -Offshore

INPEX and SANTOS have existing facilities in this space .  They do not seem to contribute payments to assist the NT Economy, or even the Australian Economy.

This is the data showing the contribution of INPEX.  They get the gas for free.  Would you support the idea of a Gas reservation policy where 9% of the gas is reserved for the NT? The gas would be used to provide firming capability to use while the renewables infrastructure is put in place.

Fracking, Unconventional Gas

The NT Government seems hell bent on trying to make this a reality in the NT.  It appears to be incredibly risky and unlikely to be a commercial success. The Beetaloo gas will be some of the most expensive gas in the world at a time when gas demand is predicted to be falling.  How will they sell the gas?

The process doesn't fit with Ecologically Sustainable Development policies and would appear to carry significant negative risks, environmentally, Socially and Economically.

Do you think it should be supported?  Currently I do not think it should receive any subsidies or support.

Economy & Affordability

The NT needs to look to the future and develop a strategic advantage in relation to the renewables era. The sooner we get the benefits of cheaper energy costs flowing through the economy the sooner we will get some cost relief through the energy impact on most things we consume, including household and business energy costs.  It also sets up a strategic economic advantage to underpin economic growth.

The NT government needs to rapidly increase land availability to encourage the development of affordable housing.  Its policy of staging land releases to maximise returns to government has been a failure.

There must be a major focus on small and medium business.

99.8% of all NT Businesses are ‘SMEs’

50% of the NT workforce is employed by ‘SMEs’

42% of the NT workforce is employed by Government & Community services

Getting 100 small businesses to grow and put on more staff is a quicker, cheaper and better way to build capacity and growth than chasing the mega project dream which do not deliver local economy benefits.

Economic development model based on business growth around small business.

It is easier for a small business, that already has a lot of the systems and know how in place to add employees than it is to create new businesses.

Further the supported growth model is a way to build strong sustainable jobs into the economy.

Contrast the development of Humpty Doo Barramundi with the failed Prawn farm venture at Legune. Humptydoo Barramundi was built on a solid base and grown from a small operation through a series of steps, into a successful major business employing more than 150 staff and a sustainable business. The prawn farm venture soaked up a lot of money and had flashy announcements but failed to get started.  Was all hype about possibilities and not grounded in reality.

The NT government’s role is to provide good lifestyles and prosperity for territorians, not millionaires and billionaires from overseas!

Ecologically Sustainable Development

Why is it that this concept os embedded in our legislation yet we do not see it reflected in decision making.  As an example fracking breaches these principles on many grounds.

Responsive Accountable Government

We need a responsive, accountable and transparent Parliament and government

We are repeatedly seeing bad outcomes from a really poor process of governance.  The community needs to reclaim its Government. Typically we get told one thing but the actions that follow do not match the words.

The Pepper Inquiry reinforced this transparency issue many times in their report and like many key aspects of that report the NT Government has ignored them.

  • FOI laws need to be strengthened.
  • ICAC needs to be fully funded and resourced.
  • Positions like fair trade ombudsman, health ombudsman need to be empowered and better resourced.
  • Scrutiny committee processes need to be reinstated and expanded.
  • Remove “corruption clause” from legislation
